(revised from Habakkuk 3:17-19)
Though the choir should not sing its songs,
Nor ballerinas take the stage;
Though the sanctuary sits dusty and silent,
And a never-worn prom dress hangs;
Though the old and sick be abandoned,
And the grieving mourn unembraced;
Yet I will rejoice in the LORD;
I will take joy in the God of my salvation.
God, the LORD is my strength;
He makes my feet swift and graceful like the dancer’s;
He puts a song of joyful praise in my mouth,
And it rises with hope higher than the heavens.
